Martí Sawe was born in Barcelona in 1986. His extravagant paintings take us to an “unknown-bootleged-world” where figurative cartoon elements are broken and diluted in abstraction. His expressionist instincts and clumsy scribbles make clear his strong bond with graffiti, an activity that he has practiced since he was 14 years old. The virtuous details and colorful flat shapes that define his compositions are inherited from his professional career as an illustrator and animator. Each artwork is an immersion into the artist’s unconscious with a dose of absurdity, a certain naive aesthetic and a dispute between control and lack of control.
